Mike Baker

Mike Baker died peacefully on Friday, September 21 at the Princess Alice Hospice, UK. The memorial service for Mike will take place on November 17th Saturday at 3pm, at St Andrews Church (yes, same name but different place!) in Ham, Church Road, TW10 5HG.

Mike was a voice of reason who contributed to the education debate. He was a model journalist, very careful with his facts and passionate with his words.

Mike Baker was awarded the 2012 Lung Cancer Journalist of the Year Award for his Cancer Blog. Mike was an education specialist, and was diagnosed with stage IV terminal lung cancer. He wrote about his cancer journey in his Cancer Blog.

I first connected with Mike for a CureTalk interview and have been hooked onto his blogs ever since. (Read Mike’s interview here, where he talks about lung cancer, cycling, alternate therapies and more)

I remember him being particularly excited about his complementary /alternative therapy regimes and even giving me a gist of what it was all about. His cancer blog was very uplifting, inspiring, analytical, and portrayed his fight against lung cancer in all honesty.

I remember at the time of the interview, he was planning to participate in The Ride and was excited about the same. Mike completed the long cycle ride giving everyone a glimpse of his tough resilience. He continued to write until his death at the age of 55.

It is difficult to fathom that Mike is not amongst us any more…

I am privileged to have known Mike, albeit for a brief time.

Mike is survived by his wife Chrissy, daughters, Louise and Rachel.
